Who We Are

 

Barry D. Yatt

ArchiBasX was started by Barry D. Yatt, FAIA, CSI, a practicing  architect and tenured full professor of construction technology, pre-design analysis, practice management, and architectural design at The Catholic University of America.

As an architect, Mr. Yatt has almost three decades experience (twelve in full-time practice). He has worked for or consulted to Skidmore Owings and Merrill, SmithGroup, Leo A Daly, Heller & Metzger, Jordan Mozer & Associates, and RTKL. He also ran his own firm, Yatt Architecture, Ltd. in Chicago for several years before joining Catholic University. Mr. Yatt has worked on such projects as the Sears Tower, McCormick Place Convention Center, Arthur Anderson's Corporate Training Center, and the Pentagon.

Mr. Yatt is also a nationally recognized producer of professional educational programs and texts including:

Cracking the Codes: An Architect’s Guide to Building Regulations, selected for publication three times by three leading industry organizations: in book form by John Wiley & Sons, as a monograph by the National Council of Architecture Registration Boards (NCARB) and as an online continuing education course by RedVector.com.

Chapters contributed to The Architectural Design Portable Handbook and Professional Practice 101, both published by McGraw-Hill

Design/Practice Education: Issues at the Intersection, the proceeds of the 1992 and 1993 Professional Practice Summer Institutes, published by the American Institute of Architects (AIA)

In addition, Mr. Yatt served for a decade on the AIA's Documents Committee where he had input on the 1997 contract editions including the B141 and A201. He was a founding planner of the AIA/ACSA Professional Practice Summer Institute, and represented ACSA at the 1999 Internship Summit. He also founded the Architectural Practice Research Project.
